Remembering Pope Francis

With deep sorrow and profound gratitude, we join the global Catholic community and people of goodwill in mourning the passing of Pope Francis.

From the moment he stepped onto the balcony as the first pope from the Americas, the first Jesuit pope, and the first to bear the name Francis, he invited the Church into a renewed spirit of humility, tenderness, and mercy. His witness was one of radical closeness—to God, to creation, and especially to those on the margins.

Here at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, where we seek to create space for prayer, renewal, and encounter, we are deeply inspired by his example. Pope Francis taught us that authentic faith overflows in love, and that the mission of the Church is lived most powerfully through compassion, justice, and hospitality.

As we give thanks for his life, we commit ourselves to carrying forward his vision—a Church that listens deeply, welcomes generously, and walks humbly with all.

Leadership Conference of Women Religious posted a beautiful statement on how Pope Francis inspired and impacted many, which you can read here.

Rest in peace, Pope Francis. Thank you for leading with the heart of a shepherd.
